The Henry Clay Inn® Policies

When you stay with us at The Henry Clay Inn®, we are providing each guest with an exceptional experience, not just a room for the night. We value all of our customers. Please take a look at these before booking your accommodations and contact us with any questions you might have.

Booking Accommodations

The Henry Clay Inn is independently owned and operated by us. When you book with us, it’s not the same as a hotel, because we are a small inn, cancellations greatly impact us.  Once you book a room with us, we turn away all other potential guests for those dates for your room. So once you book, its a mutual agreement made with us and you are agreeing to honor the terms and conditions of that reservation.


Payment is made at the time of your booking to guarantee your room for your dates requested.  We accept all credit cards that AirBnB accepts.

Check In

Check-in is 4:00pm – 8:00pm. If you will be arriving outside of these hours please let us know ahead of time so we may make arrangements for lock box pick up.

You can park in our off street parking. If you have an extended length vehicle, please try to park in the spaces farthest from the front, so you vehicle does not block other guests. If using the lock box, your keys will be located in the lock box at the entry door and will require a code for the box.  If you have any difficulties with the keys, please call us at (804) 798-3100. Try to make this call before 11pm so we can best assist you.

Check Out

In order to make sure rooms are ready for guests arriving the day you check out, we ask that you vacate your room by 11am. We know you will hate to leave us, but if you need a later check out, you must let us know so we can make arrangements. There may be an extra charge for late check out to account for the extra time for our housekeepers.


Breakfast is available to our inn guests 7 days a week from 8am-10am. Please let us know upon check-in if you plan on dining for breakfast.

Our on-site restaurant serves brunch, lunch, and dinner. Please visit our website for current hours. Currently the restaurant is closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. Reservations are recommended.

If you would like something delivered to your room during open restaurant hours, please let us know within 24 hours of the requested meal. We will plan to leave the meal at your door.


A deposit equal to one-night or 50% of the total stay, whichever is greater, is required at time of booking to guarantee your reservation.

No Smoking

The Henry Clay Inn is 100% non-smoking for any of our guest rooms and indoor spaces. We are so serious about this, that a minimum fee of $300 will be charged to your credit card on file for any violation of this rule, any cleaning or damages will also be assessed. Many of our guests are non-smokers. We do allow our guests to smoke outside, but please ask our other guests if it is okay with them, if you are in a shared outdoor space and please do not toss any butts on the property.  The no-smoking policy also applies to candles, incense, cigarettes, cigars, e-cigarettes, and anything that burns.


The Henry Clay Inn is a pet-friendly hotel. A $50 fee per pet will be charged. Select rooms are designated pet-friendly. If you forget your dog bed or bowls, please let us know, we usually have one to borrow!

We do have a few house rules for our four-legged friends:

  • Pets should be kept on a leash in all public areas.
  • Pets are not allowed to be left unattended in the guest room.
  • Pets are not allowed in indoor dining areas. Pets may join you for dining on the porch.
  • We expect guests to be respectful by scooping their pet’s waste.
  • Rabies certificate and flea & tick treatments must be current.

Health Protocols

The health, safety, and welfare of our guests and our staff is our top priority. Please know that we are adhering to CDC COVID-19 safety protocols.

Only guests are permitted inside the The Inn, no outside visitors are permitted at this time.

Cancellation Policy

72-Hour cancellation notice required for full refund of deposit. If reservations are made with donated gift certificate, the certificate becomes void if canceled at any time.

All holiday or special event reservations require a 5-day notice to cancel without penalty.
