History Talks: History of Camptown Races

Donna Gilman Dennehy will share the story of how her father, local horseman Ed Gilman of Eagle Point Farm, had the idea to hold a country race meet to raise funds for the Ashland War Memorial in 1953. There’s much more to this story… It is free and open to the public.
COTU Irish Festival

This family-style event takes place around the “Secretariat Racing Into History” monument in the Reynolds Family Plaza at Randolph-Macon College. The Secretariat festivities will include live music from local groups, local vendors, exclusive Secretariat merchandise, food trucks, birthday cake, kids’ activities and a special activity to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
